Dementia home care in Mumbai & Thane

Start with these three calls. Aaji Care (45-day dementia training, centres in Andheri and Thane), Banyan Care Circle (dementia-only, certified companions, Mahim) and Life Circle (most transparent pricing, covers Thane and Navi Mumbai). Portea is the national fallback with a Dementia India Alliance-trained program. A 24h dementia attendant typically costs ₹35,000–48,000 a month; a nurse costs ₹40,000–60,000 or more.

Most dementia-specialist agencies (Aaji Care, Banyan, Portea, Samvedna) quote only after an assessment. Ask whether GST, the agency fee, food and the helper's weekly off are included.
Questions to ask every agency
- Police verification. Is a police verification certificate done for each helper, and will you give me a copy with their Aadhaar and biodata before they start?
- Dementia training. How many days of dementia-specific training, covering wandering, sundowning, aggression and refusal to eat or bathe? Who supervises the helper?
- Replacement policy. How fast is a replacement if the helper leaves or the match fails, and how many free replacements are included?
- Leave and backup. Who covers the weekly off, festivals and the helper's home visits, and is backup cover billed extra?
- Agreement terms. Written agreement with notice period, refund on early exit, security deposit, GST, and what duties are excluded (cooking, laundry, medication).
- Supervision. Is there a care manager or nurse who visits, how often, and how are daily updates shared?
- Night and safety. Does a 24h helper stay awake at night, and what sleep break do they get? What is the emergency protocol?
